Bill Maher's birther monologue speaks to gay community's ego problem

Please forgive me for not including any news briefs today. But a video of a Bill Maher monologue has been on my mind.

He was talking about the birthers but his words leads me to say the following:

Sometimes I feel that any points of progression made by the religious right are in part the fault of the lgbt community.

We have the resources to expose their lies, their reliance on Paul Cameronesque studies and their constant stigmatization of us on a large scale. And we have the numbers of support to back us up when we do.

But many of us don't believe in talking about these things. I think our community on the whole has an ego problem.

There are some of us who have this idea that to focus any attention on organizations like the Family Research Council or Concerned Women for America or wacky religious right talkings heads such as Peter LaBarbera or Linda Harvey is beneath us.

Some of us have this idea to do so would give the religous right more attention than they deserve. And that is part of the problem. That mindset is egotistical and if we don't get our noses out of the air and to the grindstone, the lgbt community will never get to where we need to be.

But Bill Maher says it much better than me. Below the video is the transcript. Again, he is talking about the birthers, but his words can relate to the lgbt community. We have allowed lies about us to grow and spread. And now we need to mow down a shitload of crabgrass:

TRANSCRIPT: Never underestimate the ability of a tiny fringe group of losers to ruin everything. For the past couple of weeks we've been laughing heartily at the wacky antics of the "birthers", the far-right goofballs who claim Obama wasn't really born in Hawaii and therefore the job goes to the runner-up, Miss California Carrie Prejean.

And you know there is nothing you can do to convince these people, you can hand them in person the original birth certificate with the placenta, and have a video of Obama emerging from the womb with Don Ho singing in the background, and they still would not believe it.

"Hey birthers, wanna hear my theory? My theory was that Obama was born in America and you were born with the umbilical cord around your neck. I don't know what his mother was doing when she was pregnant, but I'm pretty sure your mom was drinking."

Oh, I kid the birthers, there's one thing that makes me think they could be right. We're Americans, of course we're gonna hire an illegal alien to clean-up.

I'm joking, of course. And laughing it off has also been the reaction from Democratic leaders so far. Proving that Democrats never learn. But if you don't immediately kill errant bulls**t, no matter how ridiculous it can't grow and thrive like crabgrass or Cirque du Soleil. This birther stuff might be a deluded right-wing obsession, but so was Whitewater and look where that ended up: "What are they gonna do, keep expanding the case until they impeach the President over a blowjob?"

Yes.

I'm telling you that in America there is no idea so patently absurd that it can't catch on. Have you ever met a Mormon?

Or, more recently, we had the Swift Boat allegations against John Kerry, making him, a genuine war hero, a coward in a race against the guy who never left Texas. It was so stupid Kerry refused to even discuss it and we all know how well that worked out.

Well, you may ask, how something as inane as Whitewater or Swift Boats or the birther-thing gains traction? Well I'll tell you how, the same way that the story of Elton John almost dying from ingesting too much of Rod Stewart's sperm gained traction in my high school, dummies talking to other dummies.

It's just easier now because of the internet. And because our mainstream media does such a lousy job of talking truth to stupid.

Lou Dobbs said recently, "People are asking a lot of questions about the birth certificate." Yes, the same people who want to know where the Sun goes at night and where to put the stamp on their e-mail. And Lou, you're their new king.

Which is why it is so important that we, the few, the proud, the reality based, attack this stuff before it has a chance to fester and spread. This is not a case of Democrats versus Republicans. It's sentient beings versus the lizard people.

And it is to the lizard people that I offer this deal, I will show you President Obama's birth certificate when you show me Sarah Palin's high school diploma.

In my opinion the Republican Party has been taken over the most extreme religious right (people who love to push their beliefs on others while trying to take away their rights) and that’s who they need to focus on if they real want to win. Good Luck, because as they said in WACO, “We Ain’t Coming Out”.

In the same vein, to all the birthers in La, La Land, it is on you to prove to all of us that your assertion is true, if there are people who were there and support your position then show us the video (everyone has a price), either put up or frankly shut-up. I heard Orly Taitz, is selling a tape (I think it’s called “Money, Lies and Video tape”). She is from Orange County, CA, now I know what the mean when they say “behind the Orange Curtain”, when they talk about Orange County, the captial of Conspiracy Theories. You know Obama has a passport, he travel abroad before he was a Senator, but I guess he fooled them too?

HAPPY BIRTHER DAY TO THE BIG 0!
Are the humiliating Comment-makers and name callers all paid CHICOM Netizens or just paid ACORN activists?
Thank God for Attny. Taitz and her actions to save the US Constitution and the US, itself.
Ever notice: On ALL the search engine searches (Read they've been suppressing pro-birther results) the criticisms of all us "Birthers" is the same as they do in Red China?
There, the government employs a horde of "Netizens" to go to sites to humiliate & denigrate & suppress anti-government talk. They're paid about $.25 per input, I've read.
Just like these apparent ACORN operatives do, they ALWAYS humiliate, denigrate, and use varying terms of "Mental Illness" in volume! Buzzwords like "Wingnut," "Birther," "Insane,"Unhinged, "Delusional,"Tin-hat," "Conspiratorialist," etc.
That's what happens to the average Chinese when they type out loud, and the CHICOMs have even more "Mental Health" Prisons as do the Russians.
The apparent wave of the future for us here in Obamaland? Is this why The Great O is building more prisons on military bases?
The CHICOMS have been waging economic and PSYOPS warfare on us a long time, at least since JFK (Oooh.. LISTEN TO THEM HOWL, NOW!). They've apparently continued their terroristic use of Biblical prophesies and Feng Sui (Remember what they did on 6/6/6? On 7/4/6?) by creating as part of The Big 0's Economic Manchurian Candidate grooming and Legend, that he's "Actually the Anti-Christ" (Imagine the desired conquer-and-divide reactions.) That his name, "Barack Obama," as pronounced, means "Antichrist," in ancient Hebrew from the Book of Luke, according to a religious researcher. The video, actually a good one, can be seen at this YouTube video on World Net News.
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=105527 is the site. I bet the CHICOMS knew this when they choose his Legend name.
This creation of a well-groomed "Legend," part of an overall economic warfare agenda, taking over at the top, is as old espionage craft as is planting posts in prominent Hawaii newspapers, making myth evolve into "The Truth."
.I lived on Maui when they were contemplating that legislation for the COLB's. At first it was touted as being "Generous" for the cheap immigrant Filipino sugar cane workers, because it allowed them access to Hawaii's huge entitlement programs. But when the Legislature found out hat it could potentially let a foreign, hostile, espionage agent in as US President, they RUSHED to pass that bill. HI is half-way to Red China IN EVERY WAY YOU CAN THINK OF. Very asian-based racist, they love to rip off tourists of any color or race, but there is not a school in Hawaii that does not have "Kill Ha'ole Day," the first day of school, where any Caucasian kid who doesn't want to get beaten stays home. Gov. Waihe'e himself sanctioned the practice, calling it "Cultural."
Hawaii politicians are more corrupt and racist than NJ or Chicago. Call ME a conspiriatoralist? For my own anti-drug work, I was beaten three times. Twice by the Lahaina Mafia, and once by the Maui PD. You could ask Sen. Inouye about it - He wrote to say it would be investigated. What ever happened? The Big 0...
These people who know not that major criminal and espionage crime are, indeed, CONSPIRING, ought to get off their high horses, and stand among common men such as myself, in the know, and in the craft, for a change, before flinging their verbal spears at others.

I blame the gays living in the gay enclaves (i.e. Coastal cities). They are so isolated from the real world they just shrug off the "wingnuts". I guess I can't totally blame them because they probably never run across these people in person. Although I have gotten quite the tongue lashing when I point out that these people really exist and there are a lot of people that live between the coasts.

Alvin, I believe that Obama was born in Hawaii. But I am perplexed that he won't release his birth certificate. According to our constitution being born in the United States is a current requirement for being President of the United States. I remember in 1974 in South Carolina a young Democrat nearly became governor of South Carolina. Someone then read our constitution and he was disqualified from running in the general election.

President Obama has released a certification of live birth, which is a legal document. It has been verified by Hawaiian officials, including the Governor. It is available on the internet.

He did all he should do. I really don't think he should have to jump through hopes for the benefit of those would manufacture new reasons to oppose him. - http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthcertificate.asp

BT,

I agree with your point. What really bothers me is when our own spokespeople go head to head with the talking heads of the anti-gay family groups and don’t confront them with the specific lies they tell. Like their distortion techniques in regard to specific studies, and the plethora of hypocrisies that go along with their claim that their anti-gay beliefs are based on the Bible.

The Bible is an easy one:

--Do you also believe that we should be put to death, as per Leviticus 20:13?
--Do consider remarriage to be adultery as per Jesus in Luke 16:18?

There are plenty more that could be spouted off---tactfully---in seconds, bam bam bam.

They should also have at least a few studies in their back pocket that can also be used to confront them. Ideally, they should be versed in the distortions of as many of the studies as possible.

It’s not enough to say they are distorted or misused, people need to know HOW they are misused so they know that their misuses are intentional, and therefore LIES.

And the media is virtually useless on the matter. Every time I see Perkins on MSNBC or CNN, It becomes clear that they consider these libelous “family” leaders to be credible. It’s disgusting.

To be sure, they’ll weasel around any point brought up, my point is that they should be made to weasel around those points, as it may grab the attention of a few more thinkers in the viewing audience.

And then there’s the naive part of the LGBT community, that don’t even consider these groups to be a threat, and that 'all we need is love' to work out our differences and we can all live happily ever after. The Rick Warren debacle demonstrated that aptly.

The pride parades would be an excellent way to disseminate information on that front. It would only take one float tossing out some kind of toy with a list of pro-gay websites on it. And perhaps a couple people walking along passing out pamphlets.

I haven’t been to a parade in a while, so maybe this is happening, but I haven’t heard of it yet.
