'Fake historian - homosexuality should be illegal in spite of the Supreme Court' and other Friday midday news briefs

Barton: 'I Don't Care What the Supreme Court Says,' Homosexuality Should be Illegal - You gotta love those  religious right figures. BTW I don't think St. Paul said what David Barton claims. It sounds like a bad translation to me:

 And in other news

Come on people – enough with stoking the black = homophobic meme - Pam Spaulding is right. It's time for that lie to die.

No contradiction: I'm black and gay - Meanwhile, L.Z. Granderson, an openly gay African-American columnist drops some more truth.

Federal Judge Finds DOMA Unconstitutional - Look what just happened to DOMA (again)

WHOA! Even the SBC is distancing itself from FRC honoree Ron Baity (and Charles Worley and Sean Harris) - You know things are getting weird when the Southern Baptist Convention begins to distance itself from pastors for being too anti-gay.

Long Island School Inexplicably Suspends Student For Class Project About Bullying - She was reinstated and the suspension has been taken off of her record. But the entire thing is just weird.

Oh, so that's why all the false witness against their neighbors and so on is okay--because the rules are only for bad people!

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen [Muslims],—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan [Muslim] nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

Men are traditionally more homophobic than women: homophobia increases as income and education is denied: men at the lower rungs of the socio-economic ladder tend to have more chips on their shoulders and feel hard-done-by: for such men, their masculinity, which is worn high and obvious, is the last badge of their dignity and that which entitles them to respect. Anything that appears to threaten that masculinity is reacted to very harshly and such men mistakenly consider gay men and homosexuality to threaten them. We don't, but there it is. We have to get that message out there. Poor black men who grew up in an evangelical atmposphere are no more homophobic than poor white men aho grow up in an evangelical atmosphere: they are both probably quite homophobic. Which is why we need black and white men of unimkpeachable masculine credibility to demonstrate that there is no link between being a 'real' man and being homophobic: the President is a good start but we need rappers, country singers, sportsmen, ministers and soldiers to do the same. Sorry but Adam Lambert won't cut it with these dudes.
