''You Down with LGBT' rap and video should be required viewing' and other Friday midday news briefs

This absolutely SWEET pro-lgbt rap song and video courtesy of the Planned Parenthood Los Angeles’ Peer Advocate program is the right panacea to the notion that rap and hip-hop are naturally homophobic genres. And it serves to remind us about a necessary point that many of us in the lgbt community tend to forget. Sometimes we give in to stereotypes when allies in the communities we stereotype have NO ONE listening to their voices. Let's pay attention to our invisible communities as much as we pay attention to our "appointed" communities.

A few months ago I was in the car and listening to 106.3FM here in RI.

A song came on that was along the same line but really painted out the idiocy of homophobia. I haven't heard it since.

About Jo My God. I'm going to say something that may come off as a but unpopular. I think hate speech definition should take out the word protected. There are a few reasons, but one major one is clarification. In Indiana Gays are not a protected group. Legally we don't even exist. In fact the only legal acknowledgement we have is the upcoming amendment to ban gay marriage.

Now, that being said there could be a valid argument by people in this state that they had no way to know gays counted because in their life we are not protected from hate. If it simply said any speech that promoted hate or violence towards any groups then there would be no confusion or argument that they couldn't know gays were included. It would also mean that everyone would know that respect for all groups does mean all groups with no distinction between them.
