The American Family Association's One News Now is known for being a fraudulent news sources by often creating a story around the erroneous comments of anti-gay leaders or telling only one side of an incident (making sure to make the gay community look at fault).
But the audacity goes even farther. One News Now has on occasion been inaccurately manipulating AP articles to put the gay community in a negative light:

One News Now - and the AFA in general - does seem to have a goal in mind. But it's obvious that this goal does not entail correctly informing or educating its readers.
But the audacity goes even farther. One News Now has on occasion been inaccurately manipulating AP articles to put the gay community in a negative light:
The original AP article:
Girls seeking abortions in New Hampshire must first tell their parents or a judge, some employers in Alabama must verify new workers' U.S. residency, and California students will be the first in the country to receive mandatory lessons about the contributions of gays and lesbians under state laws set to take effect at the start of 2012.
. . . A California law will add gays and lesbians and people with disabilities to the list of social and ethnic groups whose contributions must be taught in history lessons in public schools. The law also bans teaching materials that reflect poorly on gays or particular religions.

Girls seeking abortions in New Hampshire must first tell their parents or a judge, employers in Alabama must verify new workers' U.S. residency, and California students will be the first in the country to receive mandatory pro-homosexual indoctrination under state laws set to take effect at the start of 2012.
. . . Also in California, a new law will add homosexuals to the list of social and ethnic groups whose contributions must be taught in history lessons in public schools.

Does/can the AP do anything about this? It has to be violating some copyright laws.
ReplyDeleteI love it when they use the word "indoctrination" since they clearly have a poor understanding of both that word and the concept of hypocrisy.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I did not read your take when I wrote mine earlier today. I'm glad to see that the perversion of Mr. Welsh-Huggins article is getting exposure in more than one venue.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure this is a copyright violation, as well as downright dishonest. The standard Associated Press copyright statement says "This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed." The fact that they conveniently omit the copyright statement suggests they simply stole the article from AP and rewrote it to conform to their own agenda.
ReplyDeleteMoreover, the AP website (http://www.ap.org/pages/contact/contact_perm.html) says "All requests for republication of AP material must be in writing, clearly stating the purpose and manner in which the material will be used. All republished material must carry AP credit. Unless specifically noted otherwise, all permission is given for one-time use only. No political candidate, political party, political action committee, polemical organization, or any group formed for partisan purpose may use AP copy in any publication. There may be a fee for reprint use."
So was this article rewritten and redistributed with the approval of AP or the author under whose byline it appears? Or are theft, dishonesty and copyright violation are just considered "fair use" nowadays?
I do wish the AP would do something about this. It is bad form.
ReplyDeleteI hate being called a homosexual. Its not very gay.
I don't think they understand what "indoctriation" means. They indoctrianate. We accept and welcome those who come of their own free will.
Big difference.
One of the first rules of fascism is to control the message. And that's what they are trying to do. Fucking pricks!
