Principal resigns after controversy regarding anti-gay comment to student

She told a lesbian student that she was going to hell. Now she can go to the unemployment line. From the Human Rights Campaign:

Haywood High School principal Dorothy Bond has resigned, according to Tennessee media outlet the Jackson Sun.

We told you earlier today how Bond came under fire after recently telling a lesbian student she was going to hell because of her sexual orientation. You responded quickly - in just four hours, more than 5,000 of you signed our petition calling on the Haywood County School District to investigate the allegations. This afternoon, Bond announced her resignation.

In a statement, the school district said:

"The Haywood County Board of Education acknowledges its student body’s right to free speech. Further, the Haywood County Board of Education strives to provide an atmosphere of tolerance and diversity while maintaining high academic standards."

Thank you for your swift action in standing up to homophobia!

Of course the question is how long will it be before she is presented as a victim of alleged gay bullies by the National Organization for Marriage or the Family Research Council?

I hope soon. I'm just itching for a fight.

She'll be their newest poster child for the intolerance of the gay community. She'll get her 15 minutes of fame like Viki Knox or Jerry Buell and fade away to her routine life again.

  2. So this latest is that this monster has "resigned." But the interim principal of the school is now Jerry Pyron who got his doctorate from some private "Nazarene" Christian University.

Can't we just keep the Jesus freaks away from kids?

A class in sensitivity and another in professional etiquette YES. However to push for resignation is disgusting.

  4. I have a hard time agreeing with you, anonymous. That comment she made was allegedly the latest in a string of homophobic behavior. I doubt any classes would have done her any good. And who knows if she would have consented to take them.

History has shown that slaps on the wrist will never work. There needed to be a consequence for her actions. It had to be done.
