Anti-gay ad in Belize invokes Jesus

Lgbts and their allies in Belize are attempting to get rid of the antiquated sodomy laws. The following commercial is by those who don't want that to happen.

The irony is the inference of Jesus in the ad, seeing that He never said a word about homosexuality.

I've had this argument with Christians before. They say that because Jesus criticized Sodom and Gomorrah therefore he criticized homosexuality.

Two very different, but related things here:

The visually dramatized text is Jesus defending the woman taken in adultery. The stand He takes is against the institutionalized abuse of conventional moralities where people take out their unresolved conflicts by punishing other people way beyond any reasonable or constructive standard. Jesus suggests to the woman whose life he has just saved that perhaps adultery is problematical and she would be well advised to do otherwise.

One might suggest that there is a slightly different message from the one the video tries to make in there for the various participants in West Indes cultures who chose to freak out about homos and lesbians.

Meanwhile, there is a serious question of how much this piece has to do with Belize, where legal standards have far more to do with British Common Law than American style Constitutionality. I, for one would tend to suspect a large component of American money, technical services, and script writing. At least they would appear to have used local vocal talent, but I am surprised that they did not make tagged on screen engagement.

  4. When Jesus mentioned Sodom and Gomorrah, he wasn't talking about homosexuality.

"Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy."
    -Ezekiel 16:49

The more I hear about how sodomy is "unnatural", the less sense they make. I've never really heard any good reason why sodomy is "unnatural". All I ever get is "it doesn't make babies". Well no shit Sherlock, sodomy usually doesn't do that. People actually would like to have sex without making babies, that's who we are. You know what else doesn't make babies? making a commercial, using a computer, eating, breathing, etc. Basically 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% (give or take a decimal) of everything you do doesn't make babies. So what the hell makes sodomy so diffrent in this respect?

On another note, I find it pathetic, though not overly surprising, that they point the finger at homosexuals for trying to get rid of the anti-sodomy laws, even though sodomy isn't limited by orientation.
