Robertson |
Following a letter from the Human Rights Campaign and the NAACP and strong lobbying from GLAAD, Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has been put on indefinite filming hiatus due to homophobic and racially insensitive comments he made during a GQ magazine interview:
From GLAAD:
Following calls from GLAAD, A&E Network has placed Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty on an indefinite filming hiatus after he made anti-gay remarks in a recent profile in GQ Magazine. The network said in a statement today:
"We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely."GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz responded:
“What’s clear is that such hateful anti-gay comments are unacceptable to fans, viewers, and networks alike,” said GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz. “By taking quick action and removing Robertson from future filming, A&E has sent a strong message that discrimination is neither a Christian nor an American value."
Worse things have been said on that network and many others why single one person out
ReplyDeleteRidiculous, Andrew. You don't let what he said go without commentary or reprisal simply because of the vague claim that "worse things have been said." A&E is looking out for its bottom line and there is nothing wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteRidiculous! I think that one's own personal view was asked for, he gave it, and that should be the end of it! He is entitled to his own opinions, or at least that is what freedom is meant to be! I am in no way a homophobic, and believe that every person has the right to be who they want to be. However, I don't think that someone who does not share my views or opinions is wrong, or should be publicly flamed in this manner!
ReplyDeleteI understand A7E protecting their bottom line, but what we should be focused on is that this man's right to voice his own opinion is now costing him in many ways other than financially.
I guess the lesson we should learn here is that Americans are not allowed to answer a question honestly, and without worrying about other peoples feelings!
No u can't when you are on someone else's dime. I don't feel sorry for him. And remember he is not fired.
DeleteI agree with you. If I represented a company and made public remarks I'd understand if they didn't want me to portray them. He can say what he wants but they can pay whom they please.
DeleteI have very little faith left in A&E with the show "Rodeo Girls" playing. They aren't worried about offending anyone with their vast misrepresentation of the barrel circuit and the woman who compete in it. They want to protect themselves from being connected in any way to homosexuality, however sexualizing a sport, that should be respected for it's hard working athletes, to get viewers is ok?
ReplyDeleteThey aren't worried about their values, they are worried about the amount of viewers they get. Don't let that be confused.
