Franklin Graham tries to 'cancel' Amy Grant for support of same-sex marriage. Has yet to 'cancel' Donald Trump.

Franklin Graham

Popular Christian gospel singer Amy Grant, who was recently honored at the Kennedy Centers Honors, is in the news because she is hosting her niece's same-sex wedding at her farm. Grant said she is doing this because she believes that her faith tells her that God loves everyone for who they are.

Naturally some in the conservative evangelical community aren't happy. It's ironic how these folks go on and on about their right to "religious freedom" and "religious freedom" but will refuse to extend the courtesy to others.

Practically elbowing himself to be first in line spewing condemnations is Franklin Graham in a Facebook post and a series of tweets seen below:

It's a delicious irony that Graham's pretentious attack on Grant is coming at the same time in which the House Jan 6th committee recommended that the DOJ prosecute former President Donald Trump for his part in causing the Jan 6th attack on the Capitol. The attack was spurred on in part by Trump's false claim that he was cheated out of victory in the 2020 election.

It was a claim which Franklin supported:

As far as it is known, Graham  has yet to publicly recant this statement.  Or the other times he defended Trump.  And there are the plenty other times Graham either rationalized or made excuses Trump's various lies and bad behavior. Such as

the time when he defended Trump's refugee ban by claiming that it was not a Bible issue

or dismissed Trump's affair with porn star Stormy Daniels by the excuse that Trump is not "President Perfect."

or just flat out lying by claiming that Trump does not make up lies. He said this to defend Trump from the charge that at the time he had made over 8,000 lies and misleading statements.

Then there were his tweets and statements of support of Donald Trump, which were just plain embarrassingly kiss-ass  and completely unbecoming of a pastor.  Here are a few:

So basically, Graham did everything he could to make Trump sound like the Second Coming of Jesus. because Trump gave him what he wanted - symbolic gestures which placed his version of Christianity over others, conservative judges, and a say in public policy. For those material trinkets of power, Graham debased himself, his position as pastor, and the credibility of his religion. His relationship with Trump wasn't one of a spiritual advisor and a world leader. It was one of a trophy husband/wife and a sugar daddy/mama.

But now he wants everyone to forget all of this as he attempts to retake the role as a spiritual leader (which he never deserved anyway) and condemn Amy Grant because he doesn't agree with her interpretation of her faith.

I guess Graham thinks he's slick. But not too slick. He would do well to remember before he judges anyone else that just like Lady Macbeth couldn't wash the blood from her hands, he can't wash the stench of Donald Trump from his body.

That's what he gets for sticking his pompous head so far up Trump's ass.

Thank you, Franklin Graham for reminding everyone of the self-righteous and petty hypocrisy which infests the conservative evangelical sect in America. And for giving reasons why so many folks are abandoning the church.

  2. BlackTsunami,

Franklin Graham is not only not going to be able to cancel Amy Grant, he's more likely to get canceled at this point for his opposition to gay people being allowed to marry. Support for marriage equality continues to increase no matter what these fools do. They're already in the minority, and the percentage of the population that agrees with them keeps shrinking ever year.
