Ms. Dorian Corey has some words of wisdom for these uncertain times

In these uncertain times, particularly with the Orange dumbass in the White House and the coronavirus running rampant, it can be difficult for all of us to be optimistic or at least hold our heads up. I know it can be really difficult for LGBTQ people. We shouldn't get so despondent that we forget the words of wisdom from those who paved our roads.

One such person was Dorian Corey, a transgender woman, drag performer, and fashion designer who was featured in the legendary documentary Paris Is Burning. Featured in the video above are a few truths she spoke in the documentary. Her last words in this video always lift my spirits:

 “Everybody wants to make an impression, some mark upon the world. Then you think you’ve made a mark on the world if you just get through it, and a few people remember your name. Then you’ve left a mark.” 

 Unfortunately, she is no longer with us, having passed away in 1993. But her legacy was so huge that a musical was based upon her life. And an incident after her death was the basis for a plotline in the television series Pose. It had to do with a mummufied body found in her home. But you can read all about that here.
