Why am I posting this video? Because it reminds me of why I don't go to gay clubs now. Too loud, too noisy, and hard to connect with people. And I would kill for at least one song to be slow so that I can dance cheek-to-cheek with someone. Sometimes it's good to crave intimacy with no sexual contact. It seems that the clubs back then were much superior to the ones now.

Seems like everything these days is becoming more and more impersonal. I'm betting that there are retro-themed clubs out there somewhere though.
I DO know our history as I've been part of this struggle since the late 1950's.
One of the coolest things I was involved was in 1976 - I am trained in organ performance (hush) and friends here had arranged to have a Holy Union at First Presbyterian in NW Washington - kind'a close to Woodies. The ceremony was July 4, 1976 and I was to begin playing the processional at 11:50pm, so at the alter, the fireworks to celebrate the Centennial would be exploding over the Jefferson Basin. Super cool.
The last "radical" act was filing suit against the AG of Arizona and the Clerk of the Pima County Court in May, 1993 for refusing a marriage license to my partner and me. At the time, the laws were non-gender specific, but that, of course, has been changed.
One reference I notice missing in your list is to Frank Kameny - he was Civil Service in Washington, DC, and stood up against the Civil Service firing anyone who even had the appearance of being gay. He was a guest in my home when he came to Norfolk in 1978-1979(?)to address the Unitarian Church on his stand.
I also miss our old, dingy, run down, out-of-the-way bars. One in particular was in Savannah, 1965, in the basement of First Baptist, with a bare bulb over the entrance to the hidden door. That was where I met Jimmy Williams, but I don't kiss-and-tell...
Keep up your posts, I enjoy them. Jerry

I agree with you about the clubs of today. It seems hard to connect and intimate conversations. And while the internet allows this, the anonymity and distance puts up a barrier
I feel the same way when going to any club....maybe I am getting old ;)
