Know Your LGBT History - I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

It was 2007 and lgbts still had to deal with awful comedies in which our sexual orientation is a punchline like in this movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. Adam Sandler (who is not funny) and Kevin James (ditto) plays two heterosexual firefighters who enter into a civil union for the insurance. It was a hit, which doesn't say much for the mentality of some people who go to the movies.

Would it be fair to say, Alvin, that the majority of the movies you post in the Friday feature don't show us in a very good light?

And it also seems as though they are a fair sampling of gay-related general release movies. Do you think that would be a fair characterization as well?

I might not have the breadth of movie knowledge you do, but from watching a lot of recent entertainment television, it seems to me that we don't fare too well there, either, no matter how breathlessly so many gay organizations and bloggers go on about this or that "groundbreaking" show. Even in some of those, I see negative stereotypes perpetrated against us, and LGBT characters used as comic relief.

Some of my entries have been positive portrayals. But my goal is to show how the portrayals of the lgbt community has been negative for a while. I do it because I'm amazed how many young folks don't know how it was back then when movies like "Cruising" came out.

the bf is both gay and a professional fire fighter. he liked it. but he likes a lot of dumbass things. i didn't watch it.
