Fox News busted and dragged on Twitter for implying that the Pride flag 'promotes pedophilia and grooming'

One would think that Fox News learned a lesson about lying after the $787 million settlement it was forced to pay Dominion.

The network clearly didn't.

Of course, that's a lie and LGBTQ organization GLAAD made sure to let Fox News know about it.

Later Fox News changed it

But not before other folks - aside from GLAAD - proceeded to drag the network all over Twitter As you can see, it was a good day.

Editor's note - The irony of it is that the same flag appears on Fox News' Annual Corporate Report. More proof that Fox News publishes this stuff for the sake of its rabid base.

Visual exercise - The simple evil behind the 'gays are grooming kids' narrative

An image from an old religious tract shows the 'gays groom kids' lie.

In spite of claims to the contrary, the narrative that the LGBTQ community - particularly the trans community - are looking to "sexualize" or "groom" kids is not a new one. It's an old lie and it's been very successful throughout the years.  Unfortunately, nowadays it has been refurbished by social media influencers and believed by people who have no knowledge of or are willfully ignorant of the many avenues social conservatives employ to use it.

First of all, claiming that certain parties want to harm kids is an old canard used against so many other groups, including Jewish people.

From the handout, Echoes and Reflections:

Taken from the children’s book, The Poisonous Mushroom, the caption in this picture reads: “Here my little one, you get something very sweet, but as a reward you both must come with me.” This caricature portrays an elderly Jew trying to tempt small children with candy. It relies on one of the basic fears of all parents and the common instruction to little children not to take candy from a stranger. There are links made between “a stranger,” “danger,” “poison,” and “a Jew.” The Jew is portrayed as a dark, evil, threatening, manipulative stranger, as opposed to the innocent, pure, naΓ―ve Aryan children.

Exploiting parental fears while denigrating LGBTQ people as dangerous outsiders who are up to no good, much like is done in the graphic above, is a hallmark tactics in anti-LGBTQ propaganda. However, there are some differences. It can be blatant.

Hidden behind religious belief.

Or even behind the guise of statistics (which are usually lies or deliberately taken out of context).

But the most dangerous and possibly successful use of the "LGBTQ people are grooming children" narrative is when it's subtle. That's when social conservatives don't outright and accuse LGBTQ people of pedophilia or grooming. Instead, they imply that kids will be harmed by any law or action created to benefit the LGBTQ community.

Such as marriage equality

Non-discrimination ordinances

Allowing trans kids to be able to safely use school restrooms

Any pro-LGBTQ action, even those which would benefit the safety of LGBTQ kids.

The point is the stuff you hear about from social conservatives and wannabe social media influencers is general bullshit. It has less to do with protecting kids and more to do with exploiting ignorance and fears.

Deja Vu: Today's attacks on trans people are repackaged homophobia from the 1990s

To a lot of older LGBTQ people, the recent legislative and other attacks on transgender people are very familiar. We've had seen it before. In April, Jack Turban, assistant professor of child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco, published an opinion piece at CNN which spelled it all out.

Turban's piece, What the anti-trans movement is all about, deserves a read and a share.  Here are some excerpts:

If some of these arguments around fairness and protecting children from LGBTQ people sound familiar, it’s because they’re the same ones used against gay people in the 1990s. These Republicans have simply repackaged old anti-gay rhetoric and scaremongering to target transgender people.

Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, some cities in Colorado began passing laws prohibiting anti-gay discrimination. Frustrated by this progress, social conservatives in the state created an organization called Colorado for Family Values.

Worried about more localities passing anti-discrimination laws, which it saw as endorsing non-Christian values, the group came up with a bold strategy: Start a ballot initiative to amend the Colorado Constitution to prohibit state and local government bodies from passing more. The question was: How would it convince voters, who were increasingly tolerant of gay people, to support it? The group developed two primary tactics it thought would appeal to different types of voters. The first was a more palatable “fairness” argument. It created the false narrative that anti-discrimination laws would give gay people preferential or “better” treatment than straight people. It ran with the catchy slogan “equal rights, not special rights.”

Turban points out how one tactic has been recrafted to attack trans athletes by creating a false argument that they are somehow taking scholarships and victories from cis (mostly female) athletes. He talked about the second tactic.

The second was a bit more grotesque — reverting to age-old accusations that gay people were sexual predators and “groomers” who posed a risk to children. The strategies worked, and what was known as Amendment 2 passed

Turban then accurately compares how social conservatives exploited the lie that LGBTQ people are a danger to kids in the 90s to how they are now claiming that transgender people are a danger to kids.

. . . . We’ve also seen a resurgence in social conservatives labeling LGBTQ people as dangerous to children. When advocating for Colorado’s Amendment 2 in the 1990s, Colorado for Family Values distributed 750,000 copies of a pamphlets saying that “sexual molestation of children is a large part of many homosexuals’ lifestyle.” Things are much the same today. US Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted this month that “Democrats are the party of pedophiles,” a comment she doubled down on in a recent interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes.”

Some conservatives have turned this rhetoric into public policy, arguing that laws are needed to force transgender people to use bathrooms of their sex assigned at birth, suggesting that otherwise sexual assault rates in bathrooms will rise. Though research shows that such policies are linked to transgender youth facing higher rates of sexual assault, I worry that facts won’t win out.

In the 1990s, Colorado for Family Values won in large part because it had carefully crafted, emotionally inflammatory rhetoric, and its opponents didn’t. It didn’t matter that facts weren’t on the group’s side. The same is true today.

In recent years, this rhetoric has been most effectively applied to attacks on gender-affirming medical care. Some conservatives have labeled it “mutilation” and in some instances “child abuse” despite endorsements by major medical organizations.

The only thing different about what social conservatives are doing now as opposed to the 90s is a dwindling down of scapegoats. Instead of targeting the entire LGBTQ community, they are laser focused on denigrating a segment of the community. But the repercussions are still as deadly as they were back then.

Editor's note - claiming that LGBTQ people and our pursuit of certain rights will endanger kids is a social conservative tactic used in several fights against us, including marriage equality.

Anti-LGBTQ social media influencers spread easily proven lie about White House Pride Month celebration

How petty are homophobic and transphobic people? This petty. They are having an intense tantrum about the White House Pride celebration held last weekend. While some of them are outright saying they hate the idea of President Biden celebrating LGBTQ lives and issues (poor babies), others are manufacturing other excuses.

It's the old "I have no problems but gays but they are going too far because . . ."narrative. Now usually they say this before they are about to falsely accuse us of going after kids. In this case, it's all about flags:

It's been like this on Twitter all day Saturday and Sunday with various "social media influencers" showing the same image, which spewing the same dramatic spiel about the end of America, how wokeness is wrecking the country, etc etc.  You know how they are. Whenever there is a narrative they can exploit, they tend to repeat it until it's drilled into our heads and becomes the story. In other words, we can expect to hear the lie that the Biden Administration disrespected the American flag because of Pride Month until we can repeat it in our sleep.

But, like so many other times the far-right creates a cause celebre, this one is a lie. Luckily a lot of other folks on Twitter easily pointed that out:

There is a certain glee I take when it comes to these idiots.  LGBTQ people are supposed to be the disruptors. We are supposed to be liars, the enemies of truth, the danger to kids and American values. Yet it is the supposed morally straight and religiously pure who are reduced to telling easily disproven lies.

What a bunch of pretentious bitches.

Pat Robertson was a hateful SOB unworthy of respect

Religious right forefather Pat Robertson died on Wednesday, so allow me to get to the chase.

He was a hateful son of a bitch. A bigoted monster used his power and influence to make life more difficult for LGBTQ people. And don't even start whining that I am attacking him simply because I didn't share his religious beliefs. That's bull. Pat Robertson was a monster. An evil bastard who reduced Christianity to a petty weapon which he used to bash LGBTQ people every chance he got. He is a shining example of how some on the right use their supposed faith as a cover to justify or excuse some of their ugliest prejudices against LGBTQ people.

But I do take solace in the fact that he is yet another enemy of LGBTQ people who we have outlasted. It's something to remember as we face the newest challenges to our equality and God-given right to self-determination.

Below are various examples of awful things Pat Robertson said about LGBTQ people such as when he claimed we infect people with AIDS via special rights, we recruit kids, parents should treat their gay sons like drug addicts, and his constant whining about anal sex.

This was a demagogue. This was a terrible man who hurt people by his words and influence. I defy anyone to tell me that he was a man of God.

The story of the man who was NOT wearing the pro-trans pedophilia shirt at Pride

One thing LGBTQ people have to deal with these days are wannabe social media influencers trolling us for content. Groups such as Gays Against Groomers and Libs of TikTok and people like Matt Walsh and Tim Pool have had much success stirring up by the gullible sending out videos and clips mischaracterizing teachers and drag queens as 'groomers' and mischaracterizing our events as dangerous to kids.

Unfortunately, so many others want to get into the act, including this person below (Editor's note - the original tweet has been deleted but I saved a picture of it as you can see):

A photo like this is sure stir things up. As you can see, it's already gotten a lot of hits and it will probably cause a lot of accusations towards the entire LGBTQ community, particularly our trans brothers and sisters.

But here is the true picture which was caught and posted by watchful person on Twitter.
Will there be any repercussions? I don't know but I am leaning into the doubt category. When stuff like this is caught in time, folks generally let it pass without raising a fuss.

However, when these wannabe social media influencers are able to pass something like this along for a while without being called on it, it causes the LGBTQ community a myriad of problems as seen by the related posts below:

How Moms for Liberty is helping states pass vicious anti-LGBTQ bills - It's what the hate group does.

Anti-LGBTQ, anti-black history group Moms for Liberty declared a hate group by SPLC

This couldn't have happened to a more deserving group:

Moms for Liberty, the far-right parental group known for protesting at school board meetings, has been identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a "hate group" for the first time ever. Moms for Liberty, which recently said it knows liberal groups are spying on its activities because it's doing the same thing to them, is among 12 parental groups added to the SPLC's list of hate groups, according to USA Today.

"The Southern Poverty Law Center is for the first time labeling Florida-headquartered Moms for Liberty and 11 other right-wing 'parents' rights' groups as extremist groups in its annual report, released today," USA Today wrote

. "Moms for Liberty and the other organizations are being designated as 'anti-government extremist groups,' based on longstanding criteria, explained SPLC Intelligence Project Director Susan Corke. Corke said the grassroots conservative groups are part of a new front in the battle against inclusivity in schools, though they are drawing from ideas rooted in age-old white supremacy."

And SPLC's report on the group is extensive, particularly its attack on the LGBTQ community:

Moms for Liberty's attack on the LGBTQ community and their rights has been particularly focused on gender identity and the use of pronouns in schools, the transgender community and gender affirming care, and the proposed changes to Title IX, which would expand rights to the LGBTQ community. As close followers and promoters of speaker Dr. James Lindsay, the group also elevates the term "groomer," referring to a person who builds a relationship with a child to sexualize them. A critical race theory-critic and favorite of the organization, Lindsay has appeared at events and is often shared by the group’s members and officials. Lindsay also pushes theories regarding the ways that Marxists indoctrinate children. Lindsay, an admitted Christian nationalist, was made famous for coining the term "ok groomer," which subsequently led to a lifetime Twitter ban in August 2022.

Moms for Liberty adopted the term "groomer," employing it in Twitter posts. However, once the social media platform outlawed the use of term in July 2022, the group expressed its displeasure, posting a video of "Relatable" with Allie Beth Stuckey on the group’s national website. In the video, entitled “The Left's 'Don't Say Groomer’ Policy,” the host says, "Twitter and Reddit are censoring the word groomer to describe adults who talk to children about gender switching and sexuality. What else are we supposed to call them?"

And then there is the group's attack on racially inclusive curriculum such black history lessons and books:

In addition to fighting mask and COVID mandates, opposition to inclusive curriculum is at the core of Moms for Liberty's infrastructure. Their attack on critical race theory and social emotion learning has put them in the spotlight at school board meetings across the country. Moms for Liberty has been a strong proponent in the push to keep new equity and inclusion from entering public schools and remove any existing opportunities. The group has also been strong supporters of the wave of anti-CRT bills sweeping the country and key actors in the sharp increase in book bans occurring in schools and libraries.
. . . In 2021, a Tennessee chapter of Moms for Liberty was the first to file a complaint under the state’s new anti-CRT bill. The chapter took issue with a book by Ruby Bridges on her experiences integrating a school and also one on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which they called, “Anti-American, Anti-White, and Anti-Mexican.” In their opinion, these books focused too much on the negatives of history and would prefer that their children’s schools have books that focus on heroes like Clarence Thomas, Morgan Freeman, and Condoleezza Rice. The chapter specifically took issue with Bridges recollections of a White mob yelling at her on her way to school and pictures of firemen hosing Black children in the MLK March on Washington.

Instead, Moms for Liberty recommended using The Making of America to teach history. This 1985 book by conspiracy theorist and John Birch Society supporter W. Cleon Skousen portrays slave owners as the "worst victims of slavery" and claims that although the Founders wanted to free slaves, most slaves were unprepared for lives of freedom. When an anti-CRT bill went into place in New Hampshire, the Moms for Liberty chapter there announced a reward of $500 if someone could catch a teacher breaking the law. The Tweet announcing this was retweeted by the national organization.

Companies continue to support Pride in spite of boycotts and other threats

According to The Associated Press, boycotts and other attacks on companies which sell Pride merchandise has caught many by surprised and has made things a big uneasy for them. However, they are still going to support Pride

Many big companies, including Target and Bud Light's parent, are still backing Pride events in June despite the minefield that the monthlong celebration has become for some of them. Target and Bud Light recently came under fire for their efforts to appeal to the LGBTQ+ community, only to come under more fire when they tried to backpedal.

But even as they battle the negative publicity, Target and Bud Light haven’t pulled away from this year’s Pride celebrations. Target is a platinum sponsor of NYC Pride, which requires a $175,000 donation. And Bud Light’s parent Anheuser-Busch is a sponsor of Pride celebrations in Chicago, San Francisco, Charlotte and elsewhere.

Many other big companies are sticking to their sponsorships as well, including PepsiCo, Starbucks, General Motors and Jeep parent Stellantis — all of which said they have been supporting Pride events for decades and aren’t hesitating to back them again this year.

As the article points out, this continued support has come with a price. Social media campaigns are a part of the reason for the attack on these companies and Pride in general. These campaigns, some amplifying false tropes of LGBTQ molesting kids, have increased.

A majority of negative social media posts about Pride this year are attacking companies for being “woke” and accusing them of sexualizing or grooming children, says RILA Global Consulting, which tracks more than 100 million websites and social media pages per day. That’s an abrupt change from last year, when a majority of negative social media posts were focused on brands being “inauthentic” and not truly supporting the LGBTQ population even as they expanded their offerings. In May and June of 2022, there were fewer than 400 posts calling for Pride-related boycotts, RILA said. This year, in May alone there were more than 15,000.

However, what it may simply come down to is the power of the purse.

InterPride, which represents more than 375 Pride organizations globally, said 40% have reported their sponsorship dollars are up 20% or more this year. The buying power of the LGBTQ+ community is likely too big for companies to ignore. LGBT Capital, a U.K.-based investment company, estimates the U.S. has more than 17 million LGBTQ+ people with more than $1 trillion in spending power.

“For every one customer knocking the display over, there are 10 who love it, and they are going to vote with their feet,” said Allen Adamson, co-founder and managing partner of marketing firm Metaforce.

We've got money and the companies want it. It sounds like a predatory relationship, but I have no problem with it.  I get that some might find this tacky, but welcome to reality.  It's not right that we have to fight so hard for the right to live in peace. And we want people and companies to make decisions on the grounds that they are the right things to do. But sometimes, there is nothing wrong with using what you have to get what you need.

And what we have here is the power of the LGBTQ dollar.

The grift is real - Fox News spreads lies about LGBTQ people while simultaneously hosting a webpage which celebrates Pride Month

It's all a grift. Fox News spreads lies about LGBTQ people while simultaneously hosting a webpage which celebrates Pride Month.

We are in an age in which people stoke things up for profit. They call it creating a debate, but it's all about nurturing the anger and stoking the prejudice until it reaps money and fame.

No entity is better at this than Fox News:

Fox News hosts and guests have repeatedly peddled false claims about Target selling "tuck-friendly" or "tuck-'em" swimsuits for children as part of its Pride Month collection, fueling right-wing viewers and activists to wage a war on companies that are supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Despite the story being debunked by the Associated Press, such claims have emerged as part of a more extensive campaign against national brands that support Pride Month and promote efforts encouraging diversity and inclusion.

"This is just one side of this extremist playbook," Eric Bloem, Human Rights Campaign senior director of programs and corporate advocacy, told Salon. "As we enter Pride Month this year, it has been the most historic anti-LGBTQ+ legislative year. We've had over 500 anti-LGBTQ+ pieces of legislation across different states across the country – most of them targeting the trans community."

. . .Several of the claims being pushed out by Fox hosts lack evidence, Media Matters pointed out in its report. Host Rachel Campos-Duffy has called on other Target brands to speak out against the store, suggesting that it's their moral obligation to publicly call out the retail giant.
"No one doubts that Chip and Joanna are good people, kind, moral, and aligned with American values, but if I had a line at a company, and my name was on it, and that brand partnered with a trans satanist that makes tuck-'em bikinis for kids, I would feel compelled to speak up," Campos-Duffy said. "Now, maybe they're raising questions internally — of course, that's possible — but why aren't they doing so publicly?"

But Target has only been selling tuck-friendly swimsuits made for adults and not for kids as false rumors have claimed. Even after the AP debunked these falsehoods, Fox hosts have continued to push out baseless claims. Failed Michigan gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon appeared on Primetime and expressed her resentment towards Target.

The grand irony - and probably the most disgusting part of it all - is while Fox News amplifies false stories against the LGBTQ community, the network hosts a webpage which celebrates Pride Month. The webpage spotlights several prominent LGBTQ people, including trans child Ryland Whittington and his family.

The webpage is currently active, including the video of the Whittington family, in spite of how Fox News publishes articles and television segments filled with dog whistles about gender-affirming healthcare in relation to trans children.

The grift is strong. And it is nasty.

Tennessee drag show ban struck down by federal judge

Many expected that this would happen

All of that posturing. All of the time they spent justifying the law. And it blows up in their faces. Life is good. Happy Pride, y'all.

A federal judge says Tennessee’s first-in-the-nation law designed to place strict limits on drag shows is unconstitutional. In a 70-page ruling handed down late Friday night, U.S. District Judge Thomas Parker wrote that the law was both “unconstitutionally vague and substantially overbroad." He also added that the statute encouraged “discriminatory enforcement.”

“There is no question that obscenity is not protected by the First Amendment. But there is a difference between material that is ‘obscene’ in the vernacular, and material that is ‘obscene’ under the law,” stated Parker, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump.

“Simply put, no majority of the Supreme Court has held that sexually explicit — but not obscene — speech receives less protection than political, artistic, or scientific speech.” The Memphis-based Friends of George’s filed the complaint in March, saying the law would negatively impact them because they produce “drag-centric performances, comedy sketches, and plays” with no age restrictions.

Chris Geidner, who covers court issues, said that the drag ban lost on all fronts. He also said

Parker did not shy away from the underlying issues, either. “The word ‘drag’ never appears in the text of the AEA,” Parker wrote. “But the Court cannot escape that ‘drag’ was the one common thread in all three specific examples of conduct that was considered ‘harmful to minors,’ in the legislative transcript.”

After detailing that legislative history, as shown in four transcripts reviewed by the court, Parker found that “the legislative transcript strongly suggests that the AEA was passed for an impermissible purpose.”

That “impermissible purpose,” Parker found, was “chilling constitutionally-protected speech.”

In describing the concerns surrounding potential enforcement of the law, Parker seemed particularly well-attuned to the fears expressed by the plaintiffs in the case and others, writing, “The chance that an officer could abuse th[e] wide discretion [given for enforcing obscenity laws] is troubling given an art form like drag that some would say purposefully challenges the limits of society’s accepted norms.”

The ruling sends a direct message to all of those feeding off of hysteria about drag queens. We have now entered the phase in which those who spread and entertained the lie that drag queens are 'grooming' kids are going to have to defend their mess in a court of law. And under oath.

They've f@cked around for a long while. Now it's time for them to find out.

Right-wing pundit freakout about LGBTQ greeting cards prove boycotts are more about bigotry than protecting kids

Far right pundits and activists will have you to believe that their present attacks on the LGBTQ community and companies which sell Pride merchandise is all about protecting kids.  However, thanks to right-wing pundit Alison Steinberg acting like a fool in Target via this video below, we are shown what they are actually attempting to accomplish.  The recent anti-transgender legislation and attacks are merely the gateway for the bigots to come after us all.

Steinberg begins channeling lies about Pride swimwear, but she really blows a gasket over Target's greeting cards section. The fact that greeting cards exist for LGBTQ marriages and aspiring  parents really offends her.

Walmart not changing Pride merchandise in spite of Target backlash

Walmart has a message for those pushing boycotts against stores and companies which sell Pride merchandise - they aren't bucking down to any pressure.

Walmart is standing firm on its Pride Month merchandise following Target's decision to pull its collection from some stores after receiving threats. Walmart's chief merchandising officer, Latriece Watkins, told reporters gathered at the company's Bentonville, Arkansas, headquarters Wednesday that it hasn't made any changes to this year's product array. "We have merchandise that we sell all year that supports different groups," Watkins said, according to Bloomberg. "In this particular case, we haven't changed anything in our assortment."

. . .Walmart's "Pride & Joy" collection features both Pride-themed editions of items from popular brands and products created by LGBTQ-founded brands, including Pride t-shirts, gender-inclusive enamel pins, and Pride-themed accessories and home decor. Watkins said Wednesday that Walmart hasn't received any threats over its collection, according to Reuters. "In this particular case, when we think about security ... we have not done anything in particular differently related to security in our stores," Watkins said.

This is not to pat Walmart on the back because the store chain has a lot of problems when it comes to things like fairness to employees. The point, I think, is to watch the reaction from the boycott crowd. They've been raising hell against Target even to the point of allegedly causing disruption at the stores. However, they have been mostly silent about Walmart. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a totally different view of Walmart shoppers and employees.  Perhaps they think that folks at Walmart won't put up with or be scared by what those at Target were.

If you catch my meaning.
