While a bunch of phony christians (with a small "c") went to Washington to grandstand today, we have been alerted to something awful happening to one of our lgbt children:
On November 14 the body of a gay 19 year old was found a few miles away from the town in which he was residing in called Caguas. He was a very well known person in the gay community of Puerto Rico, and very loved. He was found on the site of an isolated road in the city of Cayey, he was partially burned, decapitated, and dismembered, both arms, both legs, and the torso.
This has caused a huge reaction from the gay community here, but its a difficult situation. Never in the history of Puerto Rico has a murder been classified as a hate crime. Even though we have to follow federal mandates and laws, many of the laws in which are passed in the USA such as Obama’s new bill, do not always directly get practiced in Puerto Rico. The police agent that is handling this case said on a public televised statement that "people who lead this type of lifestyle need to be aware that this will happen”
To be fair, all of the details of this situation are not fully known. But the contrast between what happened today in Washington and the news of this child's murder couldn't be more stark
While those who claim to be working in God's name went to Washington to push a lie (that has been exposed time and time again regarding hate crimes legislation), our lgbt children seem to be in danger on a worldwide level.
Just who do you think God is paying attention to?

There is no death penalty for murder ONE in Puerto Rico...no death peanlty at all...I lived there over twenty years and I must report that earlier on, a couple of decades ago, we had the ¨angel of death¨ who killed homosexuals only...he was a serial killer who happened to kill a retired, stateside born, retired professor who had just come ¨out¨...it was a horrible thing as I knew his straight son (who was adjusting to his fathers new life) through straight friends...anyway, the ¨angel¨ was a grotesque murderer who did gruesome murder...he is still in jail in Puerto Rico? If not they ought start looking for him immediately! Very sad. But truly I can tell you that ¨machismo¨ may be a great surface factor in Puerto Rico but Puerto Ricans are generally very loving and accepting of LGBT people...only the religious right zealots, read fundies, are capable of this kind of lunatic stuff (this is clearly not drug related, housing project stuff).
Puerto Ricans are very loving, if private...very loving.
The cop should be fired. How outrageous. I'm posting this to my Twitter.
This death is gruesome and horrific in the extreme, but there is in the reporting on American blogs, something that bothers me. He was a young man, but not a child. How can we stand and repeat loudly that "Brewster" was a legal adult, but call this young man a child?
The crime is bad enough. Do we need to resort to adding the same hysterical touches that the right likes to use?
Based upon the legalities of the state of Massachusetts, Brewster was of legal age. I don't think anyone was calling him an adult, but merely pointing out that Jennings was not guilty of the crime of advising a child into a sexual encounter.
I don't see the commonalities here.
At nineteen, a boy is an adult. A young one, but I think even he would have objected to being called a child.
I'm not trying to minimize the horror of this crime, I'm just saying that I think calling him a child is a distortion.
Point taken ;p
