Hate Group Says It Will Disrupt Target's Shareholder's Meeting - Apparently, the American Family Association's anti-transgender boycott isn't working too well. And, is it just me, or does the group lose style points for announcing it will be disrupting the meeting? Tacky, tacky, tacky.
Tony Perkins, president of the anti-lgbt hate group the Family Research Council is angry at People for the American Way because of a wonderful report the organization published about groups like his using the "religious liberty" argument as a weapon for homophobic discrimination.
Singling out FRC and FRC Action, the report warns, "The Washington,
D.C.-based Family Research Council and its political affiliate, FRC
Action, are among the most visible anti-gay Religious Right groups
promoting the ideology that LGBT equality and religious liberty are
incompatible." While the "report" is not perfect, it does make clear our
resolve to defend America's First Freedom. The report is wrong; we are
not "anti-gay." What we are is a Christian organization that refuses to
accept as moral any behavior God declares is immoral and damaging to
individuals and society.
I'm pretty sure the KKK would make the same mea culpa if it was asked about whether or not it is a hate group.
But I won't go there. It's too easy.
Nowhere in his whining did Perkins talk about these claims he made against the lgbt community:

A little advice from me to Perkins, Sprigg, and FRC in general - you all might as well just stop it. Every time you all insist that you are not a hate group, that you bear no homophobic animus, your paper trail cries out like an infant wanting it's mother.
There is simply too much information out there for you to continue to deny that you are a hate group. And every time you insist that you aren't, folks like yours truly are going to dig up that information to show the world and let it decide.
The Family Research Council IS a hate group and you all might as well own the label. After all, you worked hard to earn it.
Even when polling about Mississippi's awful anti-lgbt law, the American Family Association's One News Now doesn't trust its readers enough to ask unbiased questions. The following is a clip pulled from their ridiculously fawning article of the law and Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant:
Seems to me that if you have to pull junk like this, perhaps you need to examine your conscience. It's not as Christian and moral as you pretend it to be.
Stacey Dash: Transgender people should use bushes for bathrooms - You know at first, I regarded Dash as a mild annoyance, i.e. a failed actress who lucked into punditry and saying anything to get a paycheck. But now, the chyle has gotten personal. She sucks up all of the anti-transgender garbage and spews it out. Girlfriend, do you even HAVE a brain to process facts?
I am amazed and saddened that during these arguments about "bathroom bills" and the transgender community in general, the religious right and their allies are always spouting nonsense about "protecting the children," when the sad irony is that their lies hurt children, i.e. our transgender children.
And what's worse is how these folks bogart the debate so much that it's difficult to hear what our transgender children have to say. And they have a lot to say. Hearing them clears up a lot of confusion:
Tony Perkins: Christians Are Being Forced Into 'Spiritual Ghettos'- What a crock of @!%! And let's not mistake Perkins' connotation. The Nazis once put "undesirables" into ghettos before deciding to eliminate them. What Perkins really means, but is too wily to say, is that he believes those "Christians" who believe as he should be allowed to used their religion to discriminate. Because they can't, they are suddenly the "victims."
The group Mass Resistance is a vile anti-gay group of the lowest order. Led by Brian Camenker, a man so creepy you would feel as if you need a bath after merely shaking his hand (I should know because I once met him), the group seeks to demonize the lgbt community via lurid stories of "child recruitment," nasty attacks on the transgender community, and the pièce de résistance - videotaping public gay functions.
In 2006-2007, Mass-Resistance pushed for an amendment of the 1996
statute that would have required that parents be notified of any
discussion of gay or lesbian issues in the schools. The group proposed
language that lumped sexual orientation (which includes heterosexuality,
homosexuality and bisexuality) in with criminal behaviors like
bestiality and polygamy. During legislative testimony supporting the
amendment, Camenker falsely claimed
that no homosexuals died in the Holocaust and that the pink triangle
the Nazis forced imprisoned gays to wear actually signified Catholic
priests. The amendment did not pass.
Camenker, who has long focused on the purported “homosexual agenda”
in the schools and frequently claimed gays are dangerous to kids, has
repeatedly cited discredited claims from organizations like the National
Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality that link
homosexuality and pedophilia.
If we are to believe Mass Resistance, the following demonstrates the supposed shocking and evil things which goes on during a gay/straight alliance public event.
Is that it? "Shit, I could have had a V8."
Seriously though, it's how tragic Mass Resistance takes the innocent realities of our lgbt children and attempts to turn them into something ugly. It's even more tragic to think of the silly folks ready to believe what Mass Resistance puts out.
